Reading and sign-in

The Underworld Kuriboh does not require a separate reader account. Published articles are public. The admin studio uses ChatGPT sign-in to identify the publication owner and restrict editing.

Publication data

Stories, topics, narrator settings, and publishing schedules are stored by the publication. When you connect an MCP writer, it can read topic instructions, narrator directions, article drafts, and source context, and send back text and illustrations. Generation happens in that connected AI client under its account and settings. The publication does not call a model API.

Optional browser alerts

The Underworld Kuriboh asks for browser notification permission only after you choose Enable notifications. We store your browser’s push address, encryption keys, topic and format choices, paused status, and delivery results. A secure, HTTP-only cookie lets this browser manage its subscription without a separate account or email address. Alerts travel through the notification service provided by your browser; that provider also applies its own privacy practices.

You can pause or unsubscribe through Follow the news. Unsubscribing deletes your saved subscription, choices, and associated delivery records from this publication. Expired browser subscriptions are removed when the delivery service reports them as expired. Delivery history is retained for up to 30 days and inactive subscriptions for up to one year; cleanup runs during publication or scheduled delivery. Browser and operating-system settings can also block notifications.

Optional article votes

Voting is available only on articles and takes selected by the editor. Your existing ChatGPT sign-in identifies your vote; no additional reader account is created. We store a hashed identifier, your choice, the take and its wording revision, and the time of your latest vote. Names and email addresses are not stored with votes or shown to readers. Each signed-in reader has one current vote per take and can change it. Aggregate results are revealed only after you vote on that take.

Votes remain stored when an editor turns voting off. Editing the take’s wording starts a separate poll so previous votes are not attributed to a different opinion.

Anonymous readership analytics

We count visible public page views to understand which stories people read and where traffic comes from. A temporary random code stored in this browser tab groups page views into visits. It expires after 30 minutes of inactivity, and stored visit codes reset daily. Separate tabs and devices may count separately. We store page paths, times, referring website names, approximate country when supplied by our hosting provider, and a broad device category.

We do not store names, email addresses, raw IP addresses, precise location, full browser identifiers, referrer paths, or URL query strings with analytics. Only the publication owner can see the dashboard. Records are retained for up to 90 days; older data is removed when counting or dashboard access runs. Signed-in owner visits and known bots are excluded. We honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control. Blocking analytics does not affect reading.

Device preferences and hosting

Animation preferences, dismissed introductions, and interface choices may be stored on your device. The hosting provider processes requests needed to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. We have not added third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

Advertising

Advertising is currently disabled. If the publisher enables Google AdSense, clearly labeled advertisement areas can display ads supplied by Google. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to deliver and measure ads, subject to the publisher’s consent configuration.

Generated artwork is labeled as illustration. External source links take you to independent websites, which apply their own privacy practices.
